Well that was an afternoon we won’t forget in a while! Our poor Starlings class were stranded on their swimming coach trying to get back to school for over 5 hours! The A39 came to a stand still after heavy snowfall caught us all out, immediately freezing and making roads treacherous. A huge well done to Mrs Golay, Mrs Richardson and Miss Brook for handling the situation on the bus so calmly and professionally, ensuring all pupils were safe and happy. Thank you to the police and fire crew who attended the emergency situation, but most of all to the brave community members who drove in difficult conditions to rescue pupils and get them home safely; several of these didn’t even have a child on the bus… what amazing community spirit St Merryn has. A shout out also to Retallack Resort who provided pizza and drinks free to children who were taken there to be collected. And finally, well done to the Starlings class for embracing their adventure and being so patient, and to the parents waiting helplessly at home… the school phone was permanently manned by Mrs Brook and Mrs Mitchell until 9:30pm, but with intermittent power at school we know it was hard for parents to get in touch at times. Enjoy the snow day today everyone… stay safe!
