St Merryn School caters for pupils aged 3 – 11yrs. We have approximately 148 pupils on roll. The school is housed in an 1876 listed building with a modern, well equipped hall which was opened by Rick Stein in 2004. It has stage lighting that is used for school performances and community events.
Year 2 and Year 3/4 are adjacent to each other and share access to practical areas, toilets and sinks. Nursery, reception, year 1 and year 5/6 are housed separately; year 5/6 being in the main building. Three of the six classes are mixed age classes. We have three extra brand new teaching spaces and a new library. We have a new state of the art kitchen including a training kitchen for the pupils to work alongside our chef.
We have masses of outdoor space for the size of our school, including two large playgrounds, a garden area with chickens, which the children maintain, woodland area and orchard. Children have access to a wide range of resources during break times, led by our sports leaders.
Nearly half of the pupils have a leadership role within school ranging from journalist and e-safety leaders to librarians, prefects, playground buddies and school council.
The school has access to computers, we currently have one iPad between two pupils. We have wireless internet access throughout the school and a computerised library system. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards and access to many software packages.
